Joint Science Academies' Statement
The science academies of the G8 + 5 countries issued a statement in June, 2008 urging leaders worldwide to take action on a pressing global challenge. To mitigate and adapt to climate change, nations must begin a transition to being "low-carbon societies," a shift that will require energy-saving changes in all sectors -- from housing to transportation to industry -- and the development of a range of clean energy sources.
The Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change is a scientific intergovernmental body that is part of the United Nations. A transparent structure that bases its assessment about climate change on published and peer reviewed scientific technical literature.

What's the guide about
For decades we have observed a negative impact on both the environment and the climate but we have lacked the scientific knowledge to analyze and to understand the human responsibility. The early environmental movements of the 60 & 70’s were very much based on emotions while today we have enough scientific evidence to support our growing concerns.
Science has increased our understanding of how humans affect the environment and the climate in an increasing number of scientific fields. Today there is an unequivocal consensus among the most respected international scientific bodies that humans have a negative impact on both the environment and on the climate. Evidence and scientific understanding is now sufficiently clear to justify urgent action.
