Ikea has decided to reduce the energy consumption, and all IKEA buildings shall eventually use renewable energy for electricity and heating. Also, the aim is to secure sustainable conditions at all suppliers (IWAY).

IKEA’s long-term ambition is to source cotton from sustainable plantations. They are co-operating with companies and NGO’s through the Better Cotton Initiative to locate improvements in cotton cultivation techniques worldwide.

Ikea has also established requirements for wood material used in IKEA products using a staircase model to stepwise increase demands. They aim to have 30% of wood for their products coming from forests certified as responsibly managed.
